I returned to the office and the edit with a fresh coffee. A little break to rest the eyes.
Well, I liked it. Lots of negative space and interesting use of color and a prop chair. Simple and clean. The composition was a key component and changing the wall color was a fun element. Now the posing by Kate Snig was exceptional too. They had to be either aloof or dramatic. Kate is a master of both of these qualities in her gesturing and expression. AND THAT SHADOW! It looks like a home statue piece I have seen many before of someone cross-legged with their hands holding their head.
I had no idea what I was aiming for. This was a total experiment and purely for my own enjoyment. I don’t alter much in post because, maybe it’s also why I really don’t read or watch fantasy, maybe I prefer to amplify what’s there rather than modify it. Anyway, now I had a photo which looked real enough, it had interesting composition and light, it had an interesting subject, and overall, it looked to me rather artistic. By that I mean artistic in a sense it was thought out and executed with a purpose and deliberate use of color and set.
Yeah. But no.
So, I put it on my IG page and Twitter. On IG, it received very nice comments and just over average likes. On twitter, it has become my highest liked and shared post I think. I had edited a few from the same clothing so I started to think of these as a set of 3.
They both played that blue off against the green which I spent far too long trying to get right. It had to be almost the avocado from the seventies with brightness and and it had to work with the red flowers of the wallpaper.
That pose. That blue and green compliment. The shadow? An imposing penguin perhaps? No idea but it has interest.
All three images had garnered more attention than I thought they would so I rode the wave a little and sat down for the night and came up with another color for another set of 3. The blue and green are complimentary colors next door to each other so with new clothing in red, I’m thinking yellow. Inspired by my 1976 Westfalia VW camper I owned for a few years and regret selling. It was Chrome Yellow.
The skin tones and the pink material were a nightmare to edit with the yellow. Finding the right brightness and tone levels to fit into the palette.
I have a third set but I’m unsure whether to release them. They have a slightly different look but retain the same idea with the colors. I will put one up here and ask for your like below or comment for me to post the set of 3. I haven’t even got the next two so there is only one so far and far from edited finally.
What do you think? Should I finish and put a set like this out? Kate worked so hard getting this look cutting, arranging and strapping the rosehips. Her creativity always blows me away.
So let me know; and thanks for tuning in for another fun installment.
Cheers,
Robin
Hello Robin, I enjoyed your blog as always. Enjoyed your photos too! Since you requested, I wanted to at least reply, even if I don't have much in the way of a comment. I do like the colours, and it is clear that you put some thought into the creation of the photos. With several things on my mind, I don't really feel like I can provide much feedback or comments except I did enjoy the photos that clearly had effort put into them. And, I'd like to thank you for sharing. Hopefully next time I'll be able to comment, or, if in a few days I have something I comment then.
Thanks again,
Dan Poiree
