I’m laughing too.
How many times have I said being published doesn’t matter?
I know. I know. Maybe I could ‘granular’ (a term I picked up during COVID).
In the photographic field, a pro is a whole different level to me. In those I look up to in our hobbyist/pro market, being published is relatively easy if you have good work. To an outsider looking in, it helps market me as having credibility.
That’s my story and I’m sticking to it.
Some of you may have noticed I have rebranded. To be honest, I think once I saw my name and work in NUDE Magazine, I wanted to ride any feedback I receive from it. I expect the phone start ringing anytime. Like; anytime now. Soon.
It’s been coming for a while but this moment means something to me. Rebranding helps mark it with a tick. I’ve had some images that I think could have gone in magazines. That’s a humility lie. I know I have been making images that have been good enough for publication for a while. I never really had a plan. However, now I have enough good material that I can go for a publication a month in a higher quality (all subjective) magazine.
I am aiming for some print magazine that also have advertisers. My next goal.
I have submitted three times to magazines that are easier to get featured in because they feature a wider range of submissions and was accepted. I’ve had one refusal to date. and been in six publications in five months. It’s a different market and I wanted to be noticed if anyone was looking. Do I really think it will make any difference in my shoot quantity or quality of my work?
Imagine Sam Elliot looking across the table dead in the eye. “Hell no”.
You don’t get professional work unless you portray professionalism. Having a clean tidy logo is good for social media. A couple page banners and some new releases to back it up with and the branding part is done. I liked the logo design because I would never consider using aperture blades or anything distinctly cliche. That little red dot. Perfect. The banners are clean, tidy and informative without being busy. Nice.
So that’s why I branded myself. It wasn’t really a rebrand. I didn’t really have a set brand image. It was a dark picture of me. Good for here because it is a bit more personal but I like the new look. Love to hear your thoughts.
Cheers,
Robin
