I know it doesn't help when you are in the midst of it, but it is true that whatever doesn't kill you makes you stronger. You are a part of all that you have met (to steal from Ulysses) so every experience contributes to what you bring to creative works. The challenge, as always, is to earn enough to enable creative time - and if it can be done through doing what you love that's a great bonus. It's definitely not easy but you just have to keep plugging away at it.
While introspection is good, don't do too much of it, just react to life (I am 80 so do have some years of experience and hard earned lessons behind my advice :-) )
